Experience

Teaching young children has always been my passion and I am delighted to be a part of the Once Upon A Time team. Though I am new to the teaching profession I am eager to provide children with the best education by supporting children’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs and I have spent my life preparing for such a career.

In 2015 I began to work as a teacher assistant in which I carried out various duties such as designing fun and engaging activities, supervising activities, working with children one on one and in small groups, and helping manage behaviour in the classroom. A few years later I made the leap from teaching assistant to teacher.

In addition to my work experience, I have a wealth of knowledge in child development and early learning. In 2015 I graduated from Bermuda College with an Associate’s degree in Arts (Human Services) while also receiving the ‘Most Outstanding Graduate Award’ in my program. In 2016, I decided to further my studies and enrolled as a distance student at Mount Saint Vincent University and have since then taken class while working.

Graduated from Mount Saint Vincent University in November 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Child and Youth Study.  In addition, I am Elklan, CPR and SCARS certified. I pride myself in providing children with high quality care and education. My top priority is to ensure that all students in my classroom are happy and feel loved, supported and nurtured.

My favourite quote is “children don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” In my experience, this couldn’t be more true which is why I do my best to create a classroom environment in which children are happy, secure, and supported and therefore thrive. As a true professional, I believe in providing children with hands on and engaging experiences while also tailoring my approach to meet the specific needs of individual children so that all children can achieve optimal development.

Furthermore, I bring with me other unique abilities and skills such as high levels of warmth, patience, positivity, creativity and effective teaching strategies and communication skills. What I enjoy most about working at Once Upon A Time is the family like atmosphere and the positivity and encouragement shared between the teachers and staff. I am also appreciative of the support and love shown by the parents and the positive parent/teacher relationships that are built.

Cristina has been a member of Once Upon A Time since July 2019.
